#1 100 things: The Man in the Overalls on the Side of the Road

I was driving home from another 13 hour work day and as part of my (absolutely beautiful) drive I cross a looong bridge over a lake. I could clearly see a pickup stopped in the center of the far end of the bridge and someone running down the road back towards it, after picking something up off of the road. As I pulled around the truck I watched the man tip a five-gallon bucket out onto the edge of the road and an enormous logger-head snapping turtle scrabbled out into the marsh.
The man had stopped at the end of the bridge, ran to the center, rescued the turtle, then came back to let it go safely.
I loved him intensely. As long as there are people stopping to rescue turtles there's hope for humanity. And no, that's not hyperbole.
