I've just finished my first Poppy Z. Brite book and damn. Reading books like hers makes me wish I could draw or sing or possess the television for thirty minutes during primetime. The way she writes is just begging to be shown in full detail to as many people as possible. She writes about blood and intestines and vomit but by the time she's done it's just incredibly beautiful. And you're left closing your eyes trying to imagine the colors and smells. There's a point where the character (almost) kills someone just because he wants to know wants to know how tearing flesh feels, tastes, looks. Aren't you curious too? Wondering if, no, certain that there's some aspect that even your imagination can't create. She's one of those people who make my list of being jealous of their minds.
